Choosing the Right Shopify Pricing Plan for Your Business in 2026

By Adam Agerfalk · 27 July 2023 · Updated 6 September 2026

Shopify’s pricing looks simple until you actually have to pick: four plans, two billing cycles, card rates that differ per plan, and a lineup that has been renamed since most comparison articles were written. This guide reflects the 2026 plan structure — what each plan costs, what changed, and a plain rule for choosing.

The short answer: start on Basic ($29/month billed yearly) if you are launching or run the store alone. Move to Grow ($79) when you add staff or pass roughly $10,000/month in sales — the lower card rates start paying for the upgrade. Advanced ($299) is for scale and reporting; Plus (from $2,300) is for complex or B2B-heavy operations.

What changed since 2023

If you compared plans a couple of years ago, three things are different now:

  1. The “Shopify” plan is now called Grow. Same middle-tier role, new name — Basic → Grow → Advanced.
  2. Pricing is localized. Instead of USD everywhere, Shopify quotes local currency in many markets.
  3. AI is part of the platform. Every plan now ships with Shopify’s built-in AI assistant, and stores can surface products in AI chat experiences — a channel that did not exist when the 2023 plans launched.

Basic — $29/month billed yearly

Basic is a complete store: unlimited products, all core sales channels, discount codes, abandoned checkout recovery and SSL. The online card rate is 2.9% + 30¢ in the US. What you give up versus higher plans is staff accounts and cheaper processing — which is exactly why it is the right default for a first store or a solo operation. Start with the free trial and Shopify’s usual offer lets you run the first 3 months for $1/month.

Grow — $79/month billed yearly

Grow’s pitch is two numbers: 5 staff accounts and a 2.7% + 30¢ card rate. On $15,000/month of online sales, the 0.2-point rate difference versus Basic is worth about $30/month — most of the plan-price gap — before you count the value of your team actually having their own logins. This is the natural plan for a store with employees or steady five-figure monthly revenue.

Advanced — $299/month billed yearly

Advanced drops the card rate to 2.5% + 30¢, raises staff accounts to 15, and unlocks custom reporting, live third-party shipping rates at checkout and enhanced market-by-market control. The math is the same as Grow’s but at bigger volume: around $50,000/month in card sales, the rate saving versus Grow roughly covers the plan price. Below that, buy it only if the reporting and shipping features solve a real problem.

Shopify Plus — from $2,300/month

Shopify Plus is a different contract, not just a bigger plan: fully customizable checkout, unlimited staff, up to 200 POS Pro locations, priority support and native B2B features — company profiles, catalogs and payment terms. It starts at $2,300/month in the US on longer terms. The honest rule: if you have to ask whether you need Plus, you probably do not yet. Many B2B stores get surprisingly far on Basic or Grow with the right apps — we wrote about the VAT side of that in how to display prices with and without VAT on Shopify.

And the Starter plan?

Starter still exists at $5/month, though Shopify no longer features it on the main pricing page. It gives you checkout links you can drop into social media, chat or a link-in-bio — but no standalone online store. Treat it as a testing tool or a social-selling add-on, not a store plan.

How to choose, in three rules

  1. Launching or solo? Basic, billed yearly. The $10/month difference versus monthly billing is the easiest saving in commerce.
  2. Staff or ~$10k+/month in sales? Grow. Logins for your team plus the rate cut — this is the plan most real small businesses should be on.
  3. Let the card-rate math trigger upgrades. Multiply your monthly online card volume by the rate difference; when the saving approaches the plan-price gap, upgrade. That single calculation replaces most plan-comparison agonizing.

Still weighing Shopify against other platforms? Shopify’s own comparison pages against Etsy and Wix cover the platform question — and if the store itself needs work once you have picked, we take on a few long-term partner clients each year.

FAQ

How much does Shopify cost per month?

Shopify’s core plans cost $29 (Basic), $79 (Grow) and $299 (Advanced) per month billed yearly — or $39, $105 and $399 billed monthly. Plus starts at $2,300/month. Localized pricing means the exact figure varies by country.

What is the cheapest Shopify plan?

Basic at $29/month (yearly billing) is the cheapest full store. Starter at $5/month is cheaper but only sells through links and social — no standalone storefront.

What happened to the plan called “Shopify”?

It was renamed Grow. The lineup is now Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus. Features and pricing carried over; only the name changed.

Is there a Shopify free trial?

Yes — a free trial, usually followed by $1/month for the first 3 months. No credit card is needed to start. Start the trial here.

What is the difference between Basic and Grow?

Grow adds up to 5 staff accounts and a lower card rate — 2.7% + 30¢ versus Basic’s 2.9% + 30¢ per US online transaction. With a team or real volume, the rate difference funds much of the upgrade.

What are Shopify’s transaction fees?

With Shopify Payments, none — you pay only your plan’s card rate. Using a third-party payment provider adds an extra per-sale fee, which shrinks on higher plans.

Can I change my Shopify plan later?

Yes, at any time, prorated. Most stores start on Basic and upgrade when staff accounts, card rates or reporting justify it.

Is annual billing worth it?

Yearly billing saves roughly 25% — $29 vs $39 on Basic, $79 vs $105 on Grow, $299 vs $399 on Advanced. Past the experiment stage, it is usually the right call.

How much does Shopify Plus cost?

From $2,300/month in the US, on longer contract terms. That buys a customizable checkout, unlimited staff, B2B features and priority support.

Is Shopify Basic enough for a small business?

Usually, yes. Unlimited products and every core channel are included. Upgrade for staff logins, cheaper processing or deeper reports — not because “bigger must be better.”

Do Shopify prices differ by country?

Yes — Shopify quotes localized pricing in many markets (SEK in Sweden, EUR in much of Europe). The plan structure is identical everywhere.

Which Shopify plan is best for B2B?

Native B2B lives on Plus, but many B2B stores run happily on Basic or Grow with the right apps for VAT display and B2B exemption — a much cheaper route until volume demands Plus.
